E40: Dear Daddy (A Letter From Your Unborn Child - Narrative pt. 3)
Welcome to the Narrative Series, a poetic frame exploring a father's perspective of pregnancy and pregnancy loss.
What happens when grief meets love on Father's Day? This poignant episode features a heart-wrenching letter written from the perspective of an unborn child to their father. The raw emotions capture both the devastating loss and the enduring connection that remains after pregnancy loss.
"From the very first time you thought of me and loved me, I felt it," the letter begins, immediately immersing us in the profound bond that forms even before birth. Through gentle, innocent language, we experience the child acknowledging their father's pain while offering a unique perspective on their shared connection. The letter beautifully articulates how love transcends physical presence: "You just loved me before you even saw me and that's the best gift ever."
For fathers navigating the complex emotions of pregnancy loss, this episode offers a tender framework for understanding grief as an extension of love. The letter doesn't shy away from difficult emotions, acknowledging the pain of missed milestones and Father's Day celebrations. Yet it also provides comfort in the idea that the relationship continues in a different form: "I live in your heart... like a little whisper of our love that was there and will always be there."
Have you experienced the invisible bonds that remain after loss? If this message resonated with you, please share it with someone who might need these words of comfort today. Remember that acknowledging grief is a powerful step toward healing, and that love persists even when physical presence cannot.

Dear Daddy, from the very first time you thought of me and loved me, I felt it Big, super awesome love, a love that is so strong and gentle. You tell people that I was like a bright light. It turned on in a room in your heart you didn't know existed. But really you are my light Because you gave me the first chance at becoming me. Even you thinking about me. That was like a super special wish that almost came true, but we don't know why it didn't.
Speaker 1:I know you're disappointed that we won't get to play and have fun together or have any memories to share, especially because today is Father's Day. Other daddies are getting hugs from their kids and I know you're sad too Thinking about us not being together. I also wish my little hands could hold your finger, my little feet can walk to you, but I can't Because I live in your heart. That's why I wrote you this letter from my quiet place to say thank you and I love you. Knowing you'll always be my daddy forever. Thank you and I love you. Knowing you'll always be my daddy forever makes me feel happy and safe.
Speaker 1:I want you to know I'm happy that you knew me. I'm happy you were excited for me to come. I'm happy. You wanted me and you loved me, not because I might have been a boy or a girl, or because of how long I was growing in Mommy's tummy or any other silly thing. You just loved me before you even saw me and that's the best gift ever, before you even saw me. And that's the best gift ever Because I'm super, super loved by my daddy. So, while you may have lost a few emotions today, let my love hold your finger and walk you throughout the day. Remember that will always be in your heart like a little whisper of our love that was in there and it will always be there. It's a special secret With love that keeps us close. You're an unborn child. I love you, daddy. It keeps us close. You're an unborn child, I love you, daddy. I love you too, my baby you.
